On the occasion of the 48th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM-48), the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition (ASOC) with partner organizations will host a series of high-profile events dedicated to the vital link between the Antarctic, environmental protection and global peace.
MAY 7 (6:30 PM – 8:30 PM): “Beyond the Ice: Antarctica as a Blueprint for Peace and Conservation” – Public Panel

- Location: Cervantes Institute, Tokyo

- Focus: Bridging the gap between polar diplomacy and the public, exploring how the Treaty’s legacy of peace can serve as a blueprint for modern environmental cooperation

MAY 11-15 : Shunya Mizumoto Photo Exhibition “From Antarctica to Hiroshima: Thoughts about Peace and the Environment”
- Location: Rest House in Hiroshima City Peace Memorial Park
- Opening event May 11 1:00pm
- Artist: Shunya Mizumoto
- Focus: Mizumoto has used his camera to capture the beauty of the Antarctic during ten voyages with Peace Boat.
MAY 13 (7-9:00pm): Hiroshima Penguin Conference: Citizens & Penguins Perspectives on Antarctica and Peace
- Location: Social Book Cafe Hachidorisha (& Zoom livestream)
- Free (Everyone is welcome!)
- Speakers: Randal Helten (Executive Director, FoE Japan), Jim Barnes (Founder & President, ASOC), Emi Kajitani (Head of Education & Outreach, Shimane Aquarium Aquas)

MAY 15 (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM): ASOC Hiroshima Youth Art Contest – Award Ceremony – “Antarctica: Peace and Environmental Protection”
- Location: Press Room, International Conference Center Hiroshima (ICCH)
- Jury: A VIP jury will be announced the first week of ATCM
- Significance: Showcasing the vision of the next generation. Winning artworks will be presented to ATCM-48 delegates
