Current Campaigns

ASOC and its members campaign across a range of environmental issues affecting Antarctica including climate change, microplastic pollution, and the impacts of shipping, fisheries, and tourism.

ASOC advocates for a precautionary approach to Antarctic conservation, including area-based management tools, such as marine protected areas, to help buffer against the cumulative stressors of climate change and other human activities in the Antarctic.

FEATURED CAMPAIGN

Marine protected areas

Less than 5% of the Southern Ocean is fully protected.

A representative system of marine protected areas (MPAs) around Antarctica will not only support resilient ecosystems, but is a necessary step to fulfil the commitment made by 196 nations to protect 30% of ocean space by 2030.
